The Lamborghini Miura was created first as a chassis, which was presented at the Turin Automobile show in the year 1965. The response at this show was outstanding, as the mid engine layout was new during that time. Elated with the huge success, the creator of this super car, Lamborghini, assigned the job of making a body for the chassis to the firm, Bertoni, the auto manufacturer and designer. The completed car was presented to the world in March, 1966.

Ferrucio Lamborghini initially viewed the sports car, Lamborghini Miura as just a flagship car and had decided to make only 30 examples. This was the main reason for it not being developed well, initially. The Miura was consistently changed during its production period. There were three distinctive models in Miura, mainly, the P400, S and the SV. The Lamborghini P400 made its first entry at the Geneva Motor Show in the year 1966 and was the showstopper at this event. This super car was named after the famous fighting bull of Spain, Miura.

The first set of Lamborghini Miura, also called P400 consisted of V12 engine, had 3.9 liter and contained 350 HP (260 kW) power. Around 474 units of Miura was produced and sold during its first three years of production. This super sports car became the favorite of pop stars and businessmen. The Miura S was different in the sense, that it had chrome trim around the external windows, with electric windows and new inline console. The engine intake was also enhanced and a 20 HP added to it. Air conditioning was also available.

However, most sought after among the Lamborghini Miura, is the P400SV. It was created with some variation. The rear fenders were made wider, new 9 inch wheels were fixed and the rear taillights were also changed. The key technical variation involved separate gearbox and engine lubricating systems, which permitted the use specific types of oil, for each of them. Due to the enhanced carburetors, this car benefitted an extra 15 HP and had totally 385 HP. Even though this model is the best among the others, the increase in weight due to wider wheels and fenders, made it slightly slower than the rest.

Lamborghini Miura is considered to be the most beautiful sports car ever created, it is considered to be among the top ten cars in the world. It was named as the first super car, because of its striking looks, advanced design and unbelievable performance, along with it engine position. It was also the first car to have mid-engine construction. With tests showing Miura to reach 272 km/h (169 mph) top speed, it was branded as the fastest car in the whole world in 1969. This is undoubtedly the best collection car.
